Introduction of 42 KM 42 KMcovers section3 to 8 of the Wilson Trail. The event starts at Yau Tong Sam Ka Tsuen Recreation Ground, via Devil’s Peak, Black Hill, Ma Yau Tong, Tseng Lan Shue, Tung Yeung Shan, Sha Tin Pass, Tai Po Road, Shing Mun Reservoir (Main Dam), Lead Mine Pass and finishes at the Tai Po Buddhist Hui Yuan College. There are 6 sections along this 42 km(approx.) journey. There are 5 checkpoints (CP) and 3 support stations

Baggage deposit: Service will be provided for light baggage. Size of the baggage limited to 45cm x 30cm x 15cm with weight less than 3kg. Baggage must be re-sealable (to prevent contents from falling out). Contents must not be dangerous, precious or fragile. A tag, with the participant’s ID number issued by the organizer must be fastened to the baggage. The organizer is only responsible for transporting the baggage to the Finishing Point and shall not be liable for any loss or damage. All participants (including those mid-withdrawal participants) must collect their baggage at the Finishing Point on the event day by producing the stub of the deposit tag.

The Marathon starts at Yau Tong Sam Ka Tsuen Recreation Ground. Go east along Yan Wing Street; then turn into Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery on Ko Chiu Road. Ascend along the pavement then cross the road when you see staircase on your left, move up on the staircase when arrive the Wilson Trail Mile Pole (W20), pass Kwun Tong Morning Walk Trail, Devil’s Peak, turn right and go uphill when arrive (W23), you will reach the first support station (SS1) after crossing O King Road. Go ahead and turn left to the mid-level of Chiu Keng Wan Shan; head to the top of Black Hill, which is 304 m high. Descend from top and turn left at the marked post, continue down a flight of stone steps until coming to “Animal Park” (with animal statues on both sides). Turn right into the village at foothill. Before long, junction of Ma Yau Tong Tsuen and Po Lam Road will be in sight. Beware of traffic when crossing the road. Continue for about 200m before turning into the road leading to O Tau Village (W28). Behind the village, go along a rugged path, where there are rising and descending, crossing Clear Water Bay Road to Tseng Lan Shue Village by using the pedestrian subway. Turn right and go ahead for 100m then reach the Tseng Lan Shue Check Point (CP1).

After leaving the CP1, right turn into the village path and please following the mile pole of Wilson Trial, continue walking for 300m to an uphill path. Volunteer staff will be deployed within Tseng Lan Shue Village to direct participants. After a short distance, pass a small piece of woodland, then reach the “Sai Kung Old Route”. Descend the stone steps and reach the 2nd Support Station – Tai Lam Wu Support Station (SS2). Go ahead then arrive Tai Lam Wu Village(W36), cross the road and pass the village. Upon seeing a mark post, left turn and go uphill. After passing a village house, climb a distance of 544 m up to Tung Yeung Shan. This is the most challenging part of the course. However, participants can enjoy a spectacular view of Sai Kung and Pak Sha Wan. When near the crest, turn left and steps down the rugged stones to Tai Lo Au, where is the 3rd Support Station – Tung Yeung Shan Support Station (SS3). Keep walk ahead then arrive the Gilwell Campsite, ascend along the road, then reach W40, turn right to Fei Ngo Shan Road. Go downhill along Fei Ngo Shan Road. At the junction, continue into Shatin Pass Road to Lion Pavilion(M101), where there is our 2nd Check Point – Lion Pavilion(CP2). From the store near Lion Pavilion, walk northwest along the road of Shap Yi Wat then turn into a small path. On seeing Wilson Trail sign(W48), enter the trail. After a brief walk, a flight of stone stairs will be in sight. Turn right and go downhill. Reach (W50) walk along the water catchment for about 6 km to Kowloon Hills Fitness Trail, walk across the Tai Po Road Footbridge after (W60). Beware of monkeys here. After crossing the footbridge, proceed to Checkpoint (CP3) at Tai Po Road No. 2 Parking lot as directed by the Wilson Trail sign.

This section runs from Shing Mun Reservoir (Main Dam) to Lead Mine Pass, which is part of Wilson Trail (Stage 7). Walk to the far end of Shing Mun Reservoir (Main Dam) before veering left into Wilson Trail (Stage 7) (W70). There are two main parts in this section. First, follow the winding jogging trail east of the Shing Mun Reservoir. W77 Check Point (W77) will be at the end of the jogging trail, a stamp will be chopped on the participant number cloth for registration. After passing (W77), the section will merge with forest service roadway. Head west along this road, then there will be a rapid descent. Before long, reach a pavilion. Cross a small bridge, go north at the intersection heading for “Tai Po” road sign. Next is an asphalt road with a gradual ascent of 200m to the Lead Mine Pass. Lead Mine Pass is the last intersection of Wilson Trail and MacLehose Trail, where the last Checkpoint (CP5) of this event is located. It is a vast flat land with toilets and emergency telephone facilities, and is also an ideal place for recreation and leisure.

Set off from Lead Mine Pass, continue along Wilson Trail (Stage 7) towards Tai Po. You may reach (W84) 100m after walking down the staircases. Take care and reduce speed when going down the irregular stone steps. When the stone steps become regular, the roadway near Ta Tit Yan will not be far away. Descend along this asphalt road (W87), pass Yuen Tun Ha at the intersection of Wilson Trail Stages 7 and 8 (W88). Keep going down until the road becomes wider. Then walk past the village houses near Lo Lau Uk, San Uk Ka and Wun Yiu (W90). Now, the course is near the end. Proceed along Tat Wun Road, pass under Tolo Highway before crossing a small bridge. Shortly afterwards, arrive at the Finishing Point (FP) : Buddhist Hui Yuan College.

Introduction of 10 KM 10 KM starts at Sheung Dip Yuen of Shing Mun Reservoir, proceeding along Shing Mun Forest Track, Lead Mine Pass, and finishes at Tai Po: the Buddhist Hui Yuan College. Along the course, there is only one Checkpoint with supplies at Lead Mine Pass (CP5).

Section A: Starting Point to Lead Mine Pass Check Point (TSP to CP5)

This course starts at the junction of Shing Mun Forest Track – Reservoir Section (KK060784) and Lung Mun Country Trail. Walk north along the paved road, after passing the Butterflies Paradise, walk straight ahead to the intersecting point then left turn into Shing Mun Forest Track – Lung Mun Section (KK051788). The road is rather steep at the beginning, but soon becomes flat through the end of the road, i.e. the other end of Shing Mun Forest Track – Lung Mun Section (KK059795). Keep walking into the path at for about 20 minutes; toilets and recreation facilities will be located at the end of the path. Walk down about ten meters and back to Shing Mun Forest Track – Reservoir Section (KK065794). Turn left and walk towards the sign of “Shing Mun Picnic Site No.6” where the Support Station (SS4) located, drinking water will be provided. Walk along Shing Mun Forest Track - Reservoir Section to the intersection (KK067795) and walk towards to Shing Mun Forest Track - Lead Mine Pass Section. Walk uphill will lead you to the Lead Mine Pass Checkpoint (CP5) of 10km and the 42km, public toilets are also available.
Section B: Lead Mine Pass to Finish Point (CP5 to EP)

This is a route under “Challenging 12 Hours” which starts and finish at Sheung Dip Yuen, Shing Mun Reservoir.

It is about 10-minute walk from the mini bus stop at Shing Mun Reservoir (Pineapple Dam).
Participants can get out at Tsuen Wan MTR Exit B and take the mini bus from Shiu Wo Street to Shing Mun Reservoir.

With respect to management reason for large groups, all participants are expected to be at the starting point – Sheung Dip Yuen, Shing Mun Reservoir before registration time and make necessary preparation for kick off. Starting from Sheung Dip Yuen at Shing Mun Forest Track – Reservoir Section (KK060784), turn left walk down to the mini bus station at Pineapple Dam, then go up from the staircases following the direction of Pineapple Dam Nature Trail, walk along the forest path to Picnic Site No.2 where our support station located. Drinking water refilled service will be provided and you may join the games or taking a rest there. Path becomes narrower and descent, walk ascend then reach Picnic Site No. 3, after passing this site, walk ascend along the path then turn right walk up to the staircases, when arrive the Forest Track turn right to the Butterfly Garden, walk straight ahead then return to Sheung Dip Yuen.
Safety Guide
In order to provide a safe environment for all Participants to challenge their physical capability and experience the hardship of the mountain area students in pursue of knowledge, every year many Sowers Action volunteers plan and make this day happen. We receive support from other organizations and we make all efforts to do the best. Yet, we need your support to make it a success.
Information
a) Latest information:Please visit our website regularly;
b) Cancellation:The event (7th November 2010) will be cancelled with no postponement due to bad weather or any other reasons. The organizer will make public announcement through the media. Under no circumstances shall the enrollment fee and the received sponsorship be refunded.
Preparation before event
a) Participants should possess good health and undergo sufficient training.
Regular training:Participants should design their own training schedules. The training time and distance will be increased according to schedule. It is advisable to include going uphill and passing through rugged paths in each training session;
Familiarize the trail:The best training spot is the competition trail. 42KM Participants should learn how to pass through rugged paths in darkness with a hand torch. Relevant trail maps: ”Saigon and Clear Water Bay” and “Middle Part of the New Territories” can be purchased at government publications sales counters;
All team members should attend the training together for mutual understanding of individual physical abilities, progress of training and building up of team spirit to achieve the best result;
b) Warm up exercises:Participants should learn some simple stretching exercises. Do warm up exercises before the race, during mid-way breaks and after the race to increase flexibility of your muscles;
c) Insurance:It is recommended that all Participants take out adequate personal insurance.
Outfits and personal belongings (Avoid bringing precious items)
a) Clothing:comfortable and fit for hiking. Bring clothing according to weather condition, such as spare clothes, windbreaker and raincoat etc;
b) Shoes and socks:wear comfortable hiking or running shoes. Do not wear new shoes that may be too large or too small and can cause foot discomfort. It is recommended to change socks regularly to avoid blisters.
c) Necessities:
Water bottle/bag – To protect the environment, the organizer WILL NOT provide bottled drinks but only drinking water and Pocari Sweat refilled. Participants must bring their own bottles or water bags.
Snacks – The organizer will only provide simple food, such as bread and fruits. Participants may bring their own high-energy snacks, health food or sweet snacks;
First aid - First aid kits can be found in the medical station at every checkpoint. Participants are recommended to bring a basic first aid kit for emergency use between two checkpoints; St. John Ambulance Brigade First Aid team will stay on every checkpoint to provide emergency service, excluding general massage.
Other items - mobile phone, map, compass, personal medicine, sun block, sun hat, wrist watch, heavy duty torch (with batteries), hiking stick and a small amount of money.
d) Recommendations:knee pads or knee protection device to avoid muscle, ligament or joint injuries.
Important notes during race:
a) Warm up : all participants must do enough warm up exercise to enhance their muscle flexibility before, during and after the race;
b) Avoid dehydration: All participants must drink enough water. Don’t wait till you are thirsty. Dehydration may lead to severe damage to body or even death;
c) Glucose level: Plain water is the best choice for hydration. However, when you feel pain and fatigue in your legs, you may have some sweet drink, health drink, high-energy snacks or cakes;
d) Rest : Over rest of body will cause stiffness to the fatigue muscle. Take short breaks.
e) All participants should complete the course by walking or running. Any use of transportation or any other way other than walking or running will lead to disqualification from the race.
f) Feeling unwell: Any participant feels unwell or gets injured during the race should stop the race and ask for assistance from team members or other participants who must help the unwell or injured participant to the nearest checkpoint or support station where ambulance personnel or volunteer staff will try their best to give assistance. Should the unwell or injured participant being far away from the checkpoint or support station, call the emergency contact tel. no. for assistance.
g) DO NOT withdraw from the race without informing the organizer. This will lead to waste of manpower and resources in search of a missing participant. This will also hamper the rescue of the needed. If case of mid-way withdrawal, participant MUST go through withdrawal procedure at a checkpoint, support station or with the working personnel; or inform the organizer by calling the emergency contact tel. no.
h) Take care of the elderly and children;
i) DO NOT waste water or food.

Marathon courtesy
a) Give way to fast runners in narrow course;
b) Keep left when going up and right when going down. Don’t force your way through people.
c) Gentle reminder: Don’t forget to thank or smile to the volunteer staff.
Love the nature
a) All participants must observe the “Country Park Rules and Regulations”, love nature, MUST NOT smoke and must put their rubbish into a litter bin or at a refuse a collection point.
b) Many monkeys frequent the Kam Shan Country Park and Shing Mun Country Park. Participants should keep calm, walk slow and keep a distance from these monkeys. Don’t stay or eat there.
Bad weather
a) On 7th November, 2010 at 06:00 :
Event will be continued with raining, No. 1 Typhoon Signal or Yellow Rainstorm Warning upon announced;
Event will be cancelled with no postponement upon announcement of Red/Black Rainstorm Warning Signals or Typhoon Signal No. 3 or higher at 6:00a.m or later on the race day. The organizer will announce through the media.
b) During the race
Event will be continued with raining, No. 1 Typhoon Signal or Yellow Rainstorm Warning upon announced;
The Organizer may be cancelled the race when No. 3 Typhoon Signal or Red Rainstorm Warning hanged, participants will be announced by checkpoints volunteer, all participants withdrawn from the race;
The race will be cancelled if No. 8 Typhoon Signal or Red Rainstorm Warning upon announced.
c) The event will be cancelled and under no circumstances will the registration fees or donations paid be returned to the participants.

a) Open Cup – Men, Women and Team (4-person a team, without gender restriction). Participant must be over 18 of age on or before 7th November 2010, and it is obligated to finish within 12 hours.
b) Elite Cup – Men, Women and Team (4-person a team, without gender restriction). Participant must be over 18 of age on or before 7th November 2010, and it is obligated to finish within 7 hours.
c) Corporation Cup – Team (4-person a team, without gender restriction). Teams enrolled from organization solely (i.e. government units, companies or registered organizations) Participant must be over 18 of age on or before 7th November 2010, and it is obligated to finish within 12 hours.

a) Open Cup – Men, Women and Team (4-person a team, without gender restriction). Participant must be over 18 of age on or before 7th November 2010, and it is obligated to finish within 12 hours.
b) Corporate Cup – Team (4-person a team, without gender restriction). Teams enrolled from organization solely (i.e. government unit, companies or registered organizations) Participant must be over 18 of age on or before 7th November 2010, and it is obligated to finish within 6 hours.
Little Giant Challenging 2 Hours category:
a) Participants must be over 3 years old on or before 7th November, 2010, and it is obligated to finish within 2 hours. Age under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Age under 15 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, each adult can only accompanied with 2 under age 15.

With respect to management reason for large groups, all participants are expected to be at the starting point - Yau Tong, Sam Ka Tsuen, Recreation Ground (Football Court No.1) before registration time and make necessary preparation for kick off. Late comers exist over 30 minutes of Starting Time will be disqualified to join the event. “Sowers Action” reserves all the right to change or alter the event schedule when necessary.

a) Barcode bracelet (Not available for Little Giant Challenging 2 Hours)
The barcode bracelet is for recording timing. Participants are expected to ensure the identification number is identical listed out on their confirmation letters.
On the event day, all participants are required to put on the wrist bracelet before registration. There will be a press-button fastener distributed at the time of registration, please note; once is fasten and buckle this bracelet cannot be removed.
Reaching the checkpoints, participants are required to present with wrist bracelet for time recording. Whichever fail will lead to disqualified from the event of the day.
b) Number Cloth
The purpose of number cloth is for identification and time recognition. Different teams entitle to a unique colour represent their grouping. Participants are expected to ensure the identification number is identical listed out on their confirmation letters.
All participants must wear their Number Cloth on their chest with a safety pin for identification purpose.
Time recording (Not available for Little Giant Challenging 2 Hours)
Timing registry is base on the official time system of the event. Team(s) final finished time is consumed once the last member of the team(s) reported to the finishing point.
a) 42 KM - There are in total 5 Checkpoints along the trail (excluding Starting Point and Finishing Point).
All participants must reach and register at all checkpoints. Team(s) is required to register with all members (4-person) of the team(s) joined together at each checkpoint’s registration.
All participant(s) must arrive at the Shing Mun Reservoir Checkpoint (CP4) before 17:00 for registration. Late arrival after 17:00 will be disqualified from the event.
b) 10 KM - There is only 1 Checkpoint along the trail (excluding Starting Point and Finishing Point).
All participants must reach and register at all checkpoints. Team(s) is required to register with all members (4-persons) of the team(s) joined together at each checkpoint’s registration.
Change of team member(s) applicable to team(s) enrollment only.
Changes must be file and documented on or before 24th September 2010. “Change Team Member Form” can be downloaded via our website, email or fax. NO application will be accepted on the event day.
a) Team leader is a key person of any team, therefore changes is not acceptable.
b) No additional charges will be applied for changing one member of the team(s) before 16th Sept 2010.
c) HK$100 will be charge as administrative fee for changing one team member between 17th to 24th September, 2010.
d) No change of team member is allowed from 25th September, 2010.
Withdrawal during race
a) Individual(s) - Under any circumstances, individual(s) withdraw during the event must report to the nearest checkpoint/support station. Return bracelet & number cloth. Otherwise, lead to disqualification and withdrawal(s) transportation on their own cost.
b) Teams - Under any circumstances, team(s) withdraw during the event must report to the nearest checkpoint/support station. Return bracelet & number cloth. Our volunteer staff will buckle the returned bracelet onto the team leader, vice team leader or the remaining member’s bracelet, remaining member(s) be able to continue the event. Otherwise, lead to disqualification and withdrawal(s) transportation on their own cost.
Certificates
a) For 42 KM and 10 KM – “Certification of Participation”
Individual Divisions: Participant who able to finish the event within scheduled time entitle to a “Certificate of Participation” printed with name and arrival time.
Team Divisions: All team members (4-person) who able to finish the event within scheduled time entitle to a “Certificate of Participation” printed with their own name and arrival time.
Team Divisions (with team member withdrawn from the race): remaining member(s) with withdrawn member(s)’s bracelet(s) who able to finish the event within scheduled time entitle to a “Certificate of Participation” printed with team(s) name and arrival time.
b) For 42 KM and 10 KM – “Certificate of Gratitude”
Individual Divisions: Participant who unable to arrive the Finishing Point on scheduled time, entitle to a “Certificate of Gratitude” for their participation.
Team Divisions: Team member(s) who unable to arrive the Finishing Point on scheduled time, each team member(s) entitle to a “Certificate of Gratitude” for their participation.
“Certificate of Gratitude” will be sent by post after the event.
c) For Little Giant Challenging 2 Hours - “Certification of Participation”
Participant who able to arrive the Finish Point on scheduled time, entitle to a “Certificate of Participation”.
d) All “Certification of Participation” must be collect at the Finishing Point. Under any circumstances, participant(s) who wish the Organizer to send the certificate(s) by post MUST make a donation HK$20 as Education Fund at the Finishing Point Point.
Trophies and Medals (Not available for Little Giant Challenging 2 Hours) Trophies will be only entitled to the Champion for those categories with total no. of participants under 10 individual/teams.
a) Trophies: The first three winners in each category entitled to have a trophy;
b) Gifts: The first three winners in each category entitled to have a gift sponsored by The Overlander;
c) Medals: Participants of each category ranking form number 4 entitled to have a medal, the total number of winners will be 20% of total enrollment.
Team Leader’s remarks (Team Divisions only)
a) As a good team leader, you are expected to keep close contact as well as monitor your member’s practices and skills. Targeted to achieve the best result for the team as a whole.
b) Team leader is the contact person between the Organizer & its team, thus cannot be replaced. Job duties covered releasing update information to its members.
c) Team leader responsible to collect and summarize team’s donation before file and present to the Organizer. Official receipts distribution via leader to its members.
Disclaimer and Indemnity(Guardian’s signature is required for participants under the age of 18)
a) I/We, the undersigned, wish to participate in this event organized by Sowers Action (the Organizer). I/We jointly and severally confirm and agree that I/we shall comply with all relevant rules & regulations and other ad-hoc arrangements made by the Organizer and shall take part in this event entirely at my/our own risks and that I/we shall not hold the Organizer, or any sponsors / supporting organizations, responsible for any accident of whatsoever kind, resulting in death or injury, or for any damage to or loss or destruction of personal properties during the course of this event.
b)In case I/We withdraw from this event of my/our own accord or I am/we are disqualified by the Organizer because of my/our failure to reach the specified location within the time limits specified by the Organizer, I/we shall arrange my/our transportation to leave the venue. I/We also agree to indemnify or reimburse the Organizer in respect of any additional expenses or costs incurred by the Organizer arising from or in connection with my/our participation in this event.
c) I/We, the undersigned, jointly and severally undertake that all funds raised directly or indirectly by my/our participation in this event will be paid in full to the Sowers Action. I/We will not raise funds for other charities by participating in this event.
d) I/We, the undersigned, hereby acknowledge and agree that the Organizer may (without reference to, and without the prior approval of, or any payment to, any person) use, in any publicity material connected with this event (including but not limited to any of this event and the Organizer's websites) or in connection with any of the Organizer's promotional or fundraising activities, any photograph, film, videotape, record or other reproduction of the image and/or voice of me, my teammates or members of my support team who take part in this event and its related activities.
Remarks:
i) All participants of events organized by the Organizer must agree and sign the Disclaimer and Indemnity. The Disclaimer and Indemnity will send to participant by post, all participants must be signed and returned to the Organizer in designated method and time.
ii) Event period includes but not limited to major event days, introductory meeting, material collection, training, fund raising, trophy presentation and celebration.
iii) The Chinese version of this Disclaimer and Indemnity has precedence over other versions. The Organizer has all the rights to interpret and make the amendment.

Briefing Session
All participants must attend for collecting the necessary supplies of the event.
