"On 13 September 2009, Mr CHAN Hei-lam, a participant of the upcoming Challenge 12 organised by Sowers Action, joined a hiking activity organised by Sowers Action. He was found in coma at a place out of the scheduled route and was hospitalised. After receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit, Mr Chan passed away at noon on 19 September. The members of the Sowers Action community lamented over the demise of Mr Chan and offer our deepest condolences to Mr Chan's family.

In the rural mountainous regions of China, some children have to walk 1-2 hours every day to go to school. Their eagerness to pursue knowledge touches the hearts of the Sowers Action volunteers. Thus in 2000, Sowers Action organized the first “Challenging 12 Hours”, a charity walk with the aim to promote education in rural regions. Today, our participants challenge their physical abilities by completing the designated sections of the Wilson Trail within 12 hours. In doing so, they experience the hardship of the children of the rural mountainous regions. At the same time, participants are required to raise fund to help the poor students to complete their education for a better life in the future. |
There were 15,825 competitors participated in this activity in the past 9 year and the total fund raised was over HK$21,571,221. There were 1,705 competitors participated in Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours 2008 and the raised over HK$2,483,710.
